Four separate areas of study make up a full CompTIA A+; you’re considered competent at A+ when you’ve gained exams for 2 out of 4 subjects. This is the reason that most training providers offer only two of the training courses. The truth is it’s necessary to have the information on each subject as industry will demand an understanding of the whole A+ program. Don’t feel pressured to complete all 4 certifications, however we’d advise that you at least have a working knowledge of every area.

Multicast IGMP and PIM

I learned a little more about IGMP and PIM this morning. Hosts use IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol) to register with the router to join or leave specific multicast groups. The router is then aware that it needs to forward the data stream destined to a specific multicast group to the registered hosts.

My New Years Resolution

Way back in the December of 2009 I decided to make and actually keep my New Years resolution. That resolution was to undertake and gain a qualification. So when the 1st of January of 2010 dawned I started my search that would inadvertently open my eyes to the new era of study.
